Swindon Borough Council is holding a drop-in event to consult on proposed changes to Wellington Street that will improve the link between the railway station and the town centre.

On Tuesday 5 December, members of the public can call in anytime between 12 noon and 8pm to The Great Western Hotel to see the plans and speak with council officers and retained consultants.

The plans have been produced following initial consultations with residents, local businesses and mobility groups and include many of their suggestions to improve the public realm.

Cllr Garry Perkins, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “This work is being undertaken as one of Swindon Borough Council’s Pledges to enhance Wellington Street as a prime thoroughfare for the town.

“I would encourage all those who can to come to the drop-in event and have their say on the plans.  If you cannot get to the event there will be an unmanned display at the Central Library from Thursday 7 December to Tuesday 19 December, during normal opening hours.”

The proposals for Wellington Street include:

• The use of high quality paving with de-lineation paving details to help guide pedestrians to the town center.
• Upgrading the street furniture and street lighting to enhance infrastructure, de-clutter pedestrian route with unified materials and products set out to further de-lineate and guide pedestrians to the town center.
• Options for the Wellington Street / Manchester Road / Milford Street junction include, clearly marked pedestrian crossings with raised surfaces and ramps to improve accessibility for pedestrians and those with mobility impairments.
• Provide cycle facilities including a contra-flow cycle lane to provide an important cycle link to the future development of Kimmerfield’s.

People coming to the drop-in event or the library display can complete an online survey to record their views:
