Amateur dramatics group, The Western Players, will be performing ‘A Murder is Announced’ at The Arts Centre this November.
The Agatha Christie play tells of an announcement in the local paper that states the time and place a murder is to occur at Miss Blacklock’s Victorian house. The victim is not one of the house’s several occupants, but an unexpected and unknown visitor.
What follows is a classic Christie puzzle of mixed motives, concealed identities, a second death, and a determined Inspector grimly following the twists and turns. Fortunately, Miss Marple is on hand to provide the solution - at some risk to herself - in a dramatic final confrontation.
The Western Players originated as ‘The Great Western Railway (Swindon) Mechanics Institute Amateur Theatrical Society’ in the early 1900's.
Their first production was of ‘Checkmate’ by A. Halliday on April 25th 1904. The group celebrated its 100 year anniversary in 2004. Subsequent research has traced the group back even further to 1854
A spokesperson for the group said: “Today its aims are the same, namely to bring stage entertainment to the people of Swindon and to have fun doing it”.
The play will run from 6 to 9 November starting at 7:30pm, and will be performed at The Arts Centre, Devizes Road, Swindon, SN1 4BJ.
Tickets will be avaliable shortly on 07575 711522 and are priced at £14, concessions £12.
