Plenty of attractions at Avebury for September and October

The National Trust is highlighting its ongoing series of Autumn attractions at Avebury.

As ever, visitors can step back in time with a visit to Avebury Manor, where each room is furnished in a different time period, reflecting the lives of the people who have lived here for the last 500 years.

There are guided tours of the ancient and enigmatic stone circles which make Avebury famous throughout the world. 

At the Alexander Keiller Museum, visitors can find out about the archaeology of the Avebury World Heritage Site, with the story told through fascinating artefacts discovered through past excavations.

Events specific to September and October are:

- Sculpture Exhibition 2 September to 15 October, 10am to 5pm, free with entry to Avebury Manor Garden. Once again, many delightful sculptures from a range of artists will be displayed throughout the garden rooms in Avebury Manor Garden.  Most Thursdays an artist will be in the garden to showcase their work and chat with visitors.

- Heritage Open Days: free tours 8 to 17 September, free stone circle tours, and 8 and 9 September free entry. As part of The National Trust’s support of the Heritage Open Days festival, there will be free tours of the stone circle and Avebury Manor attic rooms during this period. In addition, on 8 and 9 September entry to the Manor, Garden and the Alexander Keiller Museum will be free.

- Landscape Walk—Waden Hill16 September,1.30pm to 4.30pm £8 per person, booking essential. Explore some of the Neolithic monuments which make up this ancient and intriguing landscape. The volunteer guide will help you to unlock the past by explaining the history of the landscape as you walk. Booking essential:  www.nationaltrust.org.uk/avebury

- Family Dark Skies Evenings 27 and 28 October, 5.30pm to 7pm, £6 per child (including up to two adults), booking essential. An evening walk of the stone circle following an astronomy talk and craft session. Children can make a glowing lantern and learn more about the night sky before adventuring into the stone circle to admire the stars. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/avebury

- Apple Celebrations 21 and 22 October, 11am to 3pm, free with entry to Avebury Manor Garden. Apple pressing, tasting, apple games and activities and lots of apple based fun for all the family. People can learn more about the different apple varieties grown at Avebury.

- Children’s Apple Trail19 to 29 October, 11am to 3pm, £2 per trail (plus entry to the garden). Apple-themed activities around Avebury Manor garden. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/avebury
