The Avebury Vocal Ensemble will perform at the ancient church of St James in the historic village of Avebury at 7pm on Sunday 30 June.
2024 is the 100th anniversary of the death of Charles Villiers Stanford, one of the greatest figures in the English music revival of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The programme is built around his three Motets and his Evening Service in G, together with some of his secular works. The performers will also visit a couple of lesser-known works by Bernstein and take a musical reflection on Ascensiontide, Corpus Christi and the feast of St. Peter & St. Paul with music by Finzi, Alain, Liszt, Faure and Vierne.
The Avebury Vocal Ensemble (AVE) were formed in 2000 and formerly known as NUBISS (the New University of Bath In Swindon Singers).
They are a chamber choir of between 25 and 30 singers who enjoy getting together to rehearse and perform both accompanied and unaccompanied music, encompassing sacred and secular works.
