The weekend before last Swindon Borough Council's Live Well team and Swindon Growers attended events held at the Swindon Hub in the town centre, The Parks Library (pictured above) and Mountford Manor School, to share food that organisations across Swindon had grown, in celebration of the Big Crop Drop Week.
Swindon’s Big Crop Drop scheme is a pilot project that coordinates the redistribution of fruit and veg from allotments, local market gardeners and community growers to various organisations in Swindon.
The scheme aims to reduce local food waste, inspire people to grow their own and highlight local resources and nutritional facts.
There was a huge amount of fruit and veg donated and it all went - no matter what shape, colour and size!
Donators included organisations like Twigs Community Gardens, Olive Tree Kitchen Garden, Lowe Shaw Farm and the Wonky Veg Club.
