Aspiring self-builders are invited to a free one-day event designed to help them take the first steps towards creating their dream home.

The gathering is hosted by timber frame experts Carpenter Oak, who have been helping self-builders turn their dreams into a reality for nearly 40 years.

Taking place on Saturday 15 November at the National Self Build & Renovation Centre (NSBRC) in Swindon, the Self-Builders Day will offer invaluable guidance, bringing together industry-leading experts to share practical advice, inspiration, and insider knowledge on building with timber - whether a person is planning a home, extension, garden room, or annexe.

Those who attend are promised best practice insights, tips, and know-how to help kick-start their project with confidence.

Carpenter Oak’s Design and Project consultant, Dan Wilson, who will be hosting a talk about the build process, said: “The in-person event is designed to equip attendees with the knowledge and confidence needed to embark on their own timber-framed  build projects.

"With a packed schedule of expert talks, workshops, and one-on-one consultation opportunities, it is an essential for anyone considering a self-build. ”

Self-builder and content creator Leonie Wroe (@countrylifewithleonie), who will be speaking at the event for the first time, said: “Building our own home was the most rewarding project we’ve ever taken on, but it definitely came with its challenges.
"Events like this are invaluable because they give aspiring self-builders the chance to learn from people who’ve been through the process, ask questions, and get practical advice.

"I’d have loved to attend an event like this when we were planning the project. I’m really excited to hopefully inspire others to take that first step towards creating their own dream home.”

Last year, the UK Government's Self-Build and Custom Housebuilding data showed a two percent increase in the number of people on the register.

However, the Right to Build Register (RTBR) reported over 130,000 registrants, indicating that official figures may underrepresent the true level of self-build interest.

On a mission to share knowledge and demystify timber frame construction, Carpenter Oak is welcoming both in-house and external independent experts to share advice and knowledge, covering:

- Planning advice for self-builders

- Designing an oak frame homeEco heating and ventilation systems
