The Ridgeway Farm Community Orchard is inviting volunteers to get involved and help secure the orchard’s future.
The Ridgway Farm Community Orchard is tucked away in the heart of Ridgway Farm, Purton. Established in January 2024, the orchard began as a local initiative when residents planted nearly 30 different types of fruit trees, creating a shared space rooted in sustainability and community spirit.
Over the past year, a growing group of volunteers has been caring for the orchard, meeting every first Sunday of the month at 10am to check on the trees, maintain the space, and connect with others. From pruning and watering to learning about fruit tree care, these sessions are a great way to enjoy the outdoors and support a project that benefits everyone.
The orchard committee meets every three months, with an Annual General Meeting held in January, to help guide the orchard’s development and long-term vision.
Now, the committee is inviting more volunteers to get involved and help secure the orchard’s future.
Phil Monk, Co-Chair Ridgeway Farm Community Orchard, said: “We’d especially love to see more people from the Ridgway Farm community, but the orchard is open to all residents of Purton, Wiltshire. It’s a space for everyone to enjoy—now and in the years to come.
“Whether you’re a keen gardener or just looking to support a great local cause, we’d love to welcome you. Join us on the first Sunday of every month at 10am or reach out to the committee to learn more.
“Let’s grow this community orchard together—today’s care will be tomorrow’s harvest.”
