Swindon residents and visitors can discover flavours from around the world when a Continental market comes to the town centre next month.
The four-day event will bring together what is billed as an exciting mix of international food, artisan products and unique shopping opportunities, creating a vibrant atmosphere in the heart of the town.
Visitors can sample flavours from across the globe including Korean corn dogs, Burmese cuisine, Mexican burritos, Greek souvlaki and spanakopita, Caribbean dishes, German bratwurst, Philippine specialities, Asian street food, Hungarian chimney cakes and langos, as well as olives and baklava.
Sweet treats and refreshments will also be available, including homemade fudge, freshly made crepes and barista coffee.
Cllr Matthew Vallender Cabinet Member for Culture, Planning and Regeneration, said: “The Continental Market is a fantastic addition to the town centre, bringing together an incredible variety of international food, independent traders and unique products.
“Events such as these help create a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere, attract visitors and support our local businesses. I would encourage residents to come along, explore the stalls and enjoy everything the market has to offer.”
Alongside the food, shoppers will be able to browse a selection of independent traders selling silver jewellery and ladies' fashion.
Laura James, Chair of the Swindon Shadow BID (Business Improvement District), said: “We want to create more reasons for people to come into the town centre with the new BID.
"We want them to stay longer and discover what’s here and events like the Continental Market are an important part of that.
“Bringing something different into the town centre creates energy, increases footfall and, importantly, gives our existing businesses the opportunity to benefit from more people being in the area.
“This is exactly the kind of activity we want to build on, with a regular programme of events and experiences that helps make Swindon town centre feel busy, welcoming and worth visiting.”
The Continental Market forms part of a wider programme of town centre events designed to encourage footfall and showcase the town as a destination for shopping and leisure.
Visitors can also look forward to the town’s Festive Market, which will take place from 26 November to 1 December, bringing seasonal shopping, gifts, festive food and Christmas cheer to the town centre.
