The Brunel Shopping Centre will be alive with the sound of music when a local choir undertakes a charity Singathon later this month.

The Cotswold Voices, a community pop Choir with around 60 members, will be performing their repertoire of popular and well-known songs throughout the entire day on Saturday 29 February and raising money for Prospect Hospice.  The choir will be led by Choir Master Joe Moore who will accompany the singers on the piano.

Explaining the reason behind the event Joe said: “The Cotswold Voices have been together for ten years now and we wanted to mark this special anniversary in some way.  As a group we decided that we wanted to raise money for Prospect Hospice again.  We did a very successful Singathon at The Brunel Centre in 2015 when one of our members, Jeanie Pugh, passed away and that event raised over £8000.  We’d love to raise even more money this time.  At the 2015 event we performed for six hours, but this time we’re aiming for eight.  It won’t be easy though – last time playing the piano for six hours gave me blisters on my fingers.  I shall have to investigate some gloves this time!”

The singathon will take place on a staged area on the ground floor of The Brunel Shopping Centre, between Marks & Spencer and Boots, and will start at 10am.  The singers will be kept fed and hydrated throughout by the staff of Marks & Spencer who will be generously supplying all the refreshments for the day.  Shoppers will be encouraged to get involved with deciding which songs from the 100+ song sheet the choir performs.  By spinning the wheel, in return for a donation, they will be able to select the choir’s next song.

Lewis Fagence from The Brunel said the Centre was pleased to be able to welcome the choir back again.  Lewis said “When The Cotswold Voices approached us to see if they could do another Singathon we were only too pleased to help out with facilities and equipment and to find them a suitable space to perform.  Events like this are great for everyone.  Not only do they raise substantial amounts of money for local charities but they help bring people into the Town Centre and create a wonderful atmosphere too.”

The fundraiser has already got off to a great start with over £3000 having been raised on The Choir’s Just Giving page so far.  To sponsor the choir go to:https://www.justgiving.com/team/cotswoldvoices
