Cybershow UK will today - Thursday 5 June - present a special session on digital wellbeing and security as part of this year’s Old Town Arts Festival Fringe programme.
'Civic Cybersecurity and Digital Self-Defence' will be presented at The Kings Arms in Wood Street from 3-5pm.
The talk will be led by Dr Andy Farnell, a computer scientist and author of the article Proprietary Software is Pollution and the book Digital Vegan, alongside Helen Plews, his colleague and co-host of The Cybershow, a UK-based analytical podcast.
This wide-ranging session will cover online safety education, children’s phone use, digital rights, privacy, schools and workplaces, surveillance, bullying, stalking, and more—while linking these issues to broader international political concerns.
Dr Farnell said: “Just as the food we eat affects our bodily health, technology affects mental health and society. For the sake of yourself, your community and our planet, you can learn to avoid toxic hardware, software and media in your digital diet.”
The event will include a Q&A session in which people can explore their own digital safety concerns.
Entry is free and all are welcome. More information about this and other festival events can be found at www.thisisoldtown.com/old-town-festival-events
