Swindon born writer's second novel published

Writer and former D.J, Dave McKenna, has published his second book, The Killer and the Catalyst.

The novel, a gripping thriller with more twists and turns than a rollercoaster, tells the story of one dark and stormy night when a knock on the door leads to a series of shocking and deadly events. The book is a genuine page turner that leaves the reader firmly on the edge of their seat from beginning to end.

Dave, who now lives in Devizes, was born in Swindon and grew up in the parks area of town. He lived and worked in Swindon for 30 years before eventually moving to Devizes.

Dave said: “I always enjoyed English at school, but writing in my spare time wasn’t something that I fell into until around 15 years ago. It started as poems, song lyrics, and funny short stories, and just developed over time.”

When the first Covid lockdown was imposed Dave decided to use the extra time in a positive way, writing his first novel, ‘The Code’.

Dave said: “I spent 4 months writing it. I was in training for a marathon at the time, and when I wasn’t running, I was writing. My laptop was in a poor state, so I wrote it entirely on my iPhone.

“Four years after releasing ‘The Code’, this new book was inspired by a true event that happened on my doorstep just over 10 years ago, and much of the setting is based around the area in which I live."

Dave who self-published both his novels, said: “Self-publishing in itself is fairly easy and straightforward these days, with several platforms available to use in preparing and submitting your work.

“The difficult part I have found with self-publishing, is spreading awareness, and actually getting people to read your book. Without the support of a recognised publisher, or the finances to run ad campaigns and such, it is very hard to get onto that first rung of the ladder, so to speak, if your name is not already a household one."

Dave is currently in the process of mapping out his next book, which he is hoping to have ready for release at the end of 2025.

Dave said: “The story idea is finished (and very exciting) so I’ll soon begin the first chapter. My aim is to send my next novel to a publisher.”
