The woodlands at Stourhead, near Mere, will soon be a hive of activity as the National Trust property offers exciting forest school activities over the Father’s Day weekend, and again in the school summer holidays.
Led by a professional facilitator, visitors can book to take part in forest school activities as a family this Father's Day weekend, 17 and 18 June, from 10am to 1pm. Share in natural crafts, den building and outdoor play, for an extra-special way to enjoy the celebratory weekend.
Activities are set to include navigating using nature, foraging, fire lighting and charcoal making and are perfect for one adult and up to two children, recommended ages from 5 to 12 years old.
“The Father’s Day forest school is a perfect way for children to bond with someone extra special in their lives,” said Calum Ferguson, Visitor Experience Officer. “There will be plenty of hands-on activities to really nurture and inspire a love of nature in visitors both young and old.”
Forest school will return in the summer holidays, when Stourhead will host six weekly sessions for 5 to 12 year olds, giving young people the opportunity to ditch the screens and immerse themselves in the woods and outdoor play. Again, led by a professional facilitator, activities will vary weekly, and include nature watching, making a bug hotel, building a fairy house and making mud paint. Children are to be accompanied by an adult during these sessions.
