The new season of Swindon Film starts on Wednesday 9 September with Dragonfly, the 2025 thriller which featured in the British Independent Film awards.
Neglected pensioner Elsie finds an unexpected ally in her young neighbour Colleen, and over time a friendship starts to develop, but Elsie’s resentful, guilt-ridden son stirs up tensions with shocking consequences.
A Swindon Film spokesperson said: "The film features two superb lead performances from Andrea Riseborough and Brenda Blethyn and an outstanding supporting turn from Jason Watkins.
"Riseborough and Blethyn were nominated for best joint lead performance at the British Independent Film Awards 2025."
All films shown by Swindon Film are subtitled, if not in English, and are hand-picked from the very best of new world cinema. They are shown on Wednesdays in the tiered theatre at the Arts Centre in Devizes Road, Old Town, which also offers snacks, soft drinks and alcohol.
All films start at 7.45pm, with no intervals or advertising breaks.
Full membership costs £85, which enables members to watch the entire season of 14 films at the Arts Centre, running from September 2026 to March 2027.
Alternatively, people can take out pay-as-you-go membership, which involves a one-off payment of £5 and then a cost of £9 per film (and £8 for concessions).
Non-members pay £10 per film on the night. Membership is open to anyone aged 16 or over.
