A group of Young Arts Leaders in Swindon have announced a brand-new digital arts festival for the February Half Term.

In response to the current lockdown, they have programmed a series of free events from Monday 15 to Friday 19 Feb. Families, children and young adults can choose from a range of arts and crafts workshops including collage, filmmaking, creative writing, drama, photography and rap. Swindon Libraries have commissioned several Story Times read by young actors and one from Tweedy the Clown with additional magic and circus skills!

There will be a British Sign Language storytelling workshop accessible for all and postal arts activity packs are available for those unable to join online.

Sam Sweeney, 23, one of the Young Arts Leaders said, “We’re offering ways of having fun and being creative during this period where we can’t leave the house. Making the workshops free means everyone can have a chance at joining in, even if activities are new to them.”

The group of nine Young Arts Leaders have been working with staff from Prime Theatre and Swindon Borough Council Children’s Services to plan their event. Their programme offers activities for a variety of ages and experience. Each workshop will end with an opportunity for participants to learn more about the arts and pathways to becoming professional.

Amelie Mapstone, 11, encouraged other young people to take part saying, “The arts are a great way of bringing people together and learning new skills. Don’t be afraid if you don’t think you are creative! Anyone can come and give it a go!”

Support from the Wiltshire Community Foundation and the #iwill Fund means that activities are free, and participants earn an Arts Award certificate. Workshops will place on Zoom and Story Times will broadcast on Swindon Libraries YouTube channel. Tickets for all events are limited and should be booked in advance at www.primetheatre.eventbrite.com

Further information and details of the full workshop programme are also available on Eventbrite or by contacting [email protected]
