Swindon Hindu Centre plans to celebrate the Holi festival in a grand way at the Town Gardens Bowl between noon and 4pm on Sunday 24 March.
Holi is the festival of colours and is celebrated worldwide, with people playing with colours and water and applying it to each other's faces.
Apart from its historic cultural beginnings, modern day Holi is considered a unifying force that joins up communities of different regions, colours and faiths.
It is said: “For those few hours when colours are applied on the faces of people playing Holi, they all shed their separate identifies and what remain is just a bunch of ‘Humans’ enjoying colours of life in full."
Holi has always been celebrated in Swindon, but often limited to small groups within the community, This time, however, the scale has been increased, and the Town Gardens celebration will feature two DJs pumping out Bollywood and western numbers, a War of DJs piece, sumptuous food stalls covering the North, South, East and West of India and a wide variety of traditional and modern drink options that Swindon has never seen before, including various surprises during the afternoon.
The event is open for all and more information can be found at http://www.SwindonHoli.co.uk and https://www.swindonhinducentre.co.uk/swindon-holi-2024
