Haydon Wick invites people to move more for mental health

Haydon Wick Parish Council are holding a series of events to support Mental Health Awareness Week, which runs until 19 May.

This year's theme is Movement: Moving More for Our Mental Health.

The council is encouraging residents to get active with a full schedule of fun movement-focused events lined up.

Cllr Rebecca Ross, Chair of the Community Development Committee, said: "We could all benefit from a little more movement in our lives.

"With this in mind we’ve organised something for everyone to get moving this Mental Health Awareness Week, why not drop in and join the fun? "

Highlights of the week's events include:

Tai Chi Course (Wednesdays) - Six-week course on the gentle, low-impact exercise taught by Sunbird Tai Chi. Improves balance, coordination and reduces stress/anxiety.

Charity Quiz Night (Friday) - Get ready for a mind-bending, laugh-inducing night of quizzical fun in support of mental health charities Kelly Foundation and BEST Be a Better You!

The quiz will be held on 17 May at 7pm at Haydon Wick Club. Tickets are priced at £5 with refreshments available.

Charity Well-Being Walk/Run (Sunday) - Councillor-led run through Haydon Wick to raise funds for 4Kelly and BEST.

Meet at Mouldon Hill car park at 2pm.

Starting this week is a new Companions Café (third Thursdays) - The monthly support group starts this week and is for caregivers of those living with dementia. People can share experiences, find resources and allow loved ones to attend with volunteers.
