Newbury Racecourse has announced its very own lager brewed less than 10 miles from the venue.
The move is part of a restructuring of the course's beverage offering and pouring rights.
The new lager - which is the cheapest available at the Racecourse - is the creation of a partnership with the Yattendon-based, Renegade Brewery, and is a further commitment by Newbury to make a day’s racing as affordable as possible.
Brewed exclusively for the racecourse, the lager uses 100 percent British ingredients including homegrown Berkshire malt.
The introduction of the locally brewed lager comes as the racecourse makes broader changes to its beverage offering, with new partnerships seeing Lucky Saint, Thatchers Cider, Camden Hells and San Miguel all now on offer at Newbury.
As well as working to tackle affordability the racecourse have also been keen to offer a broader choice of zero and low alcohol options for racegoers to enjoy, and this ambition is underpinned with a new partnership with Lucky Saint.
Lucky Saint - with an ABV of 0.5% - will be the first time Newbury Racecourse has an alcohol-free beer on draught. The racecourse have plans to further extend their commitment to zero and local alcohol provision with a creation of a dedicated bar, with this bar due to open in the summer.
Luke Boase, founder of Lucky Saint, said: “I’m thrilled to see Lucky Saint served on draught at Newbury Racecourse, and to see the commitment to providing quality alcohol-free options.
"The greatest reward of drinking is the social connection, and nothing says that better than a day out at the races.”
As part of the series of changes, racegoers will also be able to enjoy a variety of Thatchers’ best-selling ciders including Thatchers Gold, Blood Orange, Apple & Blackcurrant and Cloudy Lemon, alongside the low alcohol Thatchers Zero.
Martin Thatcher of Thatchers Cider said: “A crisp, refreshing, smooth cider pairs perfectly with the thrill of a raceday - that’s why we’re so excited to bring Thatchers Cider to Newbury Racecourse.
“Their top-class racing is the perfect setting to enjoy an expertly crafted pint, whether enjoying the sport or simply soaking up the atmosphere.”
The final change, all of which seek to provide the best and broadest possible beverage offering for racegoers, sees the commencement of a new partnership with the world’s largest brewer, the Budweiser Brewing Group (BBG). This new partnership will see the introduction of a super-premium portfolio of Camden Hells, the No.1 ROS Craft Lager in the UK, and San Miguel, the No.1 Spanish Lager in the world, available at all bars across the Racecourse.
Sunny Mirpuri, On-Trade Sales Director at BBG, said: "As the world’s largest brewer, with premium brands steeped in heritage and tradition, it’s our ambition to partner within premium, high-tempo venues where we can elevate consumer experiences.
"I’m looking forward to growing together with Newbury Racecourse, while improving their quality of serve through our best-in-class Drinks Dispense Team and ultimately create ever-lasting memories for their adoring customers.”
Shaun Hinds, Chief Executive Officer at Newbury Racecourse, said: “We are really excited by the launch of our very own Newbury lager, brewed less than ten miles from the Racecourse by our partners at Renegade Brewery.
"It’s our most affordable lager, and its creation is the latest in a series of efforts to make our raceday experiences as accessible and affordable as possible.
"The introduction of our lager is complemented by a raft of new partnerships which enhance the range of beverages available at the Racecourse while offering our racegoers a broader choice of increasingly popular zero and low -alcohol drink choices.”
The Racecourse’s new beverage offering is available now and with 27 racedays still to be enjoyed in 2025 there will be plenty of opportunities to make the most of the new range, and none more so than at Newbury’s huge summer of music.
Pop icons Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Ella Henderson will perform live after racing on Saturday 19 July (Weatherbys Super Sprint Day), before Bjorn Again visit on Friday 15 August and Clean Bandit take to the stage on Saturday 16 August (Hungerford Day). BRIT-award winner James Bay rounds off the huge summer of music, performing live after racing on Saturday 20 September (Dubai Duty Free International Weekend).
The lowest priced tickets and passes for this summer’s music and racing action are available until Friday 28 March and – along with details of everything happening at the Racecourse – can be explored at www.newburyracecourse.co.uk.
