A call is going out for all poets, storytellers, and lovers of Swindon’s vibrant arts scene.
Poetry Swindon has launched its 2025 writing competition, inviting the local community to be inspired by the town’s visual art in all its forms, from bold murals to gallery masterpieces.
The theme this year is 'Words on Art, Swindon', and entries are welcomed in the form of a short poem of up to 20 lines, flash fiction, or memoir - 150 words maximum.
Submissions should be inspired by visual art seen at Swindon Arts Fringe events, with free entry from 16th June, or reflect on any art, from tattoos to public sculpture.
The competition is open to two age categories, under and over 15, with a £50 prize voucher for the overall winner. Winners will be announced and celebrated at a live reading on Saturday 28 June at 2pm at The Bakers Cafe in Emlyn Square.
“We want this to be joyful, local and full of heart,” says Sophie Boyce, organiser at Poetry Swindon. “This competition is all about celebrating the art on our streets and in our spaces—and hearing what it stirs in the people who live here.”
Entry closes at midnight on 23 June 2025, and must be submitted via email to [email protected]. Entrants must live or work within 15 miles of Swindon's town centre.
