The organisers of the Swindon Recital Series have announced December's performance.
Enigma 14 is an unusual ensemble combining Lisa Nelsen on flute, Julian Metzger on cello and Paul Turner at the piano, and is rapidly gaining a reputation for exciting and communicative performances.
A series spokesperson said: "We can look forward to Trios by Louise Farrenc, full of long melodies and sparkling classicism, Gaubert with his exotic and impressionistic colours, Ravel’s ever-popular Mother Goose Suite and Francaix’s humorous writing, packed with rhythmic surprises and quotes from famous pieces."
Enigma 14 appears at the Arts Centre on Sunday 10 December at 3pm. Tickets are £16 for adults and £13 for seniors and unwaged people. There is also a theatre administration fee of £1.50. Student tickets are £3; accompanied children aged 14 and under are admitted without charge.
There is an additional charge of £3.65 for each financial transaction undertaken (not for each ticket if buying more than one).
Lisa Nelsen is internationally recognised for her versatility as a flute soloist, chamber and orchestral musician, educator and mentor in performance practices. Lisa manages to combine live performance with being Chair of the British Flute Society, an artist for Yamaha Music UK and a Professor at the Junior Department of the Guildhall School of Music in London, teaching flute and coaching wind chamber groups and the orchestral winds, amongst her other teaching commitments.
Lisa grew up on a pig farm in Western Canada, and fed on all kinds of music, from opera to rock to jazz. She makes many venues her stage, and thrives on sharing the energy that performances can generate.
Julian Metzger has an exciting multifaceted career as a chamber musician, orchestral player, soloist and teacher. This career path can be traced back to his early childhood in Germany where he first developed his passion for cello playing and music making, followed by many years of study and single-minded dedication to his craft.
Wherever he plays he delights audiences with his rich palate of sound colours, treating the listener to both standard and lesser-known masterworks played with absolute conviction.
Paul Turner is an Honours graduate and an elected Associate of the Royal Academy of Music where his many prizes and awards culminated in the Queen’s Commendation for Excellence and the Peter Pears Accompaniment Prize.
An experienced recitalist, he has appeared at London’s leading venues and major UK festivals. He has given concerts in Europe and South America and worked with eminent singers and instrumentalists.
Swindon Recital Series was founded 29 years ago by Mr Turner. The series is committed to providing world-class chamber music in the Swindon area by presenting regular concerts of chamber music given by professional musicians.
The series takes place between September and April each year at various venues in and around Swindon, including the Wyvern Theatre and the Arts Centre.
