Swindon’s SALOS Musical Theatre Company are bringing Dolly Parton’s smash hit musical, 9 to 5 to Swindon next week with four performances at New College’s Phoenix Theatre.
9 to 5 The Musical is a hilarious story of friendship, gossip and revenge. With music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and a book by Patricia Resnick, this show is based on the seminal 1980 hit movie. Set in the late 1970s, this hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking, and even a little romantic.
Pushed to breaking point, three female co-workers devise a plan to get even with their sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot of a boss. In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy, and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy—giving their boss the boot. While Hart remains otherwise engaged, the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down.
Russell Langdown, SALOS Chair and the show’s Director, said: “We’re incredibly excited to be bringing this production to the stage this Spring. It’s such a genuinely funny, thought-provoking show, and the cast and crew have worked so hard to pull it all together.
“It’s the first time 9 to 5 is being performed in Swindon, and the first time SALOS have used New College, so it’s great to be bringing something truly different to Swindon Audiences”.
SALOS has been creating high quality productions for Swindon audiences since its inception in 1952 as Swindon Amateur Light Operatic Society. The group recently celebrated their 70th anniversary and are looking forward to a busy year with 9 to 5, followed by a weeklong run of the classic Andrew Lloyd-Webber musical Evita at Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre in the autumn.
9 to 5 will be performed at New College Swindon’s Phoenix Theatre on Thursday 10 to Saturday 12 April.
