Following the success of 2022’s season of events at the Town Gardens Bowl, the South Swindon Parish Council says it's thrilled to announce the return of Summer At The Bowl, starting on Friday 19 May.

The season of events will start with Hollywood blockbuster, Top Gun: Maverick – an outdoor cinema experience, presented by Swindon-based Horizon Experiences.

A spokesperson from the South Swindon Parish Council said: "The 1936 art-deco style Bowl, situated in Town Gardens, Swindon, is one of only a handful of its kind in the country and provides a unique backdrop to a spectacular range of events throughout the year and, in 2023, audiences will once again have the chance to experience first-class theatre, music, comedy and cinema in this truly iconic venue."

Horizon Experiences will also be back on Friday 26 May with A Star Is Born and then again to round off the season with The Greatest Showman on Friday 22 September.

Also taking place at the Bowl will be a performance of Twelfth Night from The Duke’s Theatre Company on Friday 28 July. For Shakespeare-loving Swindonians looking for a more modern twist on a classic, Shake It Up: The Improvised Shakespeare Show, is set to take place on Saturday 1 July.

For comedy fans, Aurie Styla, Paul McCaffrey, Esther Manito and Matt Richardson will come together for an evening of Comedy At The Bowl during the August Bank Holiday weekend.

The events season continues then with the return of BlackBox Theatre, in collaboration with Swindon and Wiltshire Pride, to the Town Gardens Bowl, following their sell-out tour of Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit in 2021 and Bouncers in 2022, as they bring the world premiere of Ortonesque.

Ortonesque is a new play looking at the extraordinary life and times of the outrageous playwright, Joe Orton, and his doomed relationship with long-term collaborator and partner, Kenneth Halliwell. This will come to Swindon on Sunday 13 August.

Earlier in August, there will be a performance of the tale of Robin Hood, presented by Three Inch Fools (on Tuesday 8).

Furthermore, South Swindon Parish Council say they are thrilled to be welcoming Music For Miniatures with their Teddy Bear’s Picnic – a classical performance suitable for ages 0-4.

A spokesperson for the event added: "Watch as the live music enchants little ones, as they dance, joggle and explore their surroundings with scarves and egg shakers provided for all."

Additionally, for those looking for something musical, South Swindon Parish Council will also be hosting a varied programme of live music events at the Town Gardens Bowl, in addition to their collaboration with My Dad’s Bigger Than Your Dad Festival.

This year's Old Town Bowl programme will feature performances from artists as varied as Supersonic Queen, 21st Century ABBA & Elton, and Old Time Sailors.
