The Swindon Society is celebrating its 52nd anniversary this September, and will be holding an open day.
The open day will take place at the Lawn Community Centre on Saturday 21 September between 10am to 4pm.
The committee will be promoting the society with displays of archived images of Swindon, and will be on hand to talk about the history of various areas in Swindon, old and new.
Andy Binks, Chairman of The Swindon Society said: “We have been trying to preserve the history of Swindon in photographs, documents and presentations for much of that time.
“We like to think we have and still do our best to encourage the people of our great little town to want to know more of its past history. Yes, the Great Western Railway is the early history but so much more has happened in our ever-changing home.
“Please come along and see what we have to offer.”
The society has monthly meetings from September to June, with presentations on a variety of local subjects.
For those wishing to attend, please come to Goddard Park School on Park North (SN3 2QN) on September 11 for a 19.30 start, and refreshment afterwards.
Andy said: “You would be made most welcome. You can join or just pay a small fee for an evening.
“We have a vast catalogue of photographs, and a really enthusiastic team to run it all. If you come bring anything of local history with you. Photos, documents or similar. We love to scan such things and return to you. Or just come along and see what we do and you may be surprised by what we can offer.
“We look forward to seeing you, there will be refreshments available all day, plenty of parking and a warm welcome guaranteed.”
