A trio of artists say they are looking forward to exhibiting their work at the forthcoming Festival of Tomorrow.

Sheryll Fox, Andi Theokle and Carol Burns will be joining other local and national artists exhibiting during February half term as part of this year’s Festival of Tomorrow, which runs from 12 to 23 February.

The annual celebration explores the wonders of science, innovation and the arts, with free events across several locations in Swindon.

Last year, the festival attracted over 24,000 visitors who enjoyed hands-on science and creative activities, talks, shows, and workshops. This year, more artists than ever will participate, highlighting the importance of integrating science, research, and the arts.

Sheryll Fox said: “This is a fabulous festival that gives artists the opportunity to engage with a new audience who may not go to galleries and other traditional arts settings.

"We want to share our passion for making art and inspire future generations to be creative.”

Festival organiser Louise Halliday said: “We are delighted that so many artists will be joining us this year. I’m particularly excited to be able to show off some of the fantastic creative work

that takes place in Swindon, whilst also featuring renowned artists and creative organisations from across the UK and overseas.”

Painters Sheryll, Andi and Carol will display original artworks ranging from expressionist landscapes and cheeky teddies to moving abstracts in the Great Western Hall at STEAM, alongside the impressive Gaia installation by Bristol-based artist Luke Jerram.

The exhibition will be free to enjoy, with paintings available to purchase. Visitors can meet the artists, learn about their inspirations and techniques, and watch out for ‘live’ painting sessions.

Festival-goers of all ages will also have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of free creative workshops, covering everything from experimental drawing and collage, through

making bio-plastics from simple ingredients, to visualising music with the aid of creative coding. Highlights include:

- Collage artist Marian Hill will share intriguing facts about UK insects and guide children through collaging their own insect illustrations on 15 and 18 February at STEAM.

- Festival of Tomorrow Artist in Residence Jo Beal will be leading a series of nature-inspired art workshops and drop-in activities for all ages throughout the half-term week at the festival’s Carriage Works venue alongside HotHouse, an exciting new interactive installation of 2.5m tall otherworldly plant sculptures brought to life by Bristol-based creative studio Air Giants.

- Interdisciplinary artist Steph Tudor will be leading creative workshops inspired by the work of researchers at the University of Bath’s Institute for Sustainability, including the opportunity to experiment with making bio-plastics art.

- ESERO-UK Space Ambassador and artist Helen Schell will be returning to the Festival Finale at the Deanery CE Academy on 21 & 22 Feb to run drop-in family art activities exploring the space technologies of the future.

- Organisers are also calling for artists of all ages and abilities to submit creations inspired by the theme Our Future Earth for the change to be featured in the Festival’s first ever Open Exhibition.
