Vintage kilo sale coming to Meca Swindon

Vintage clothing lovers are invited to Meca Swindon for a kilo sale.

The sale, organised by Worth the Weight, is billed as an opportunity for people living in Swindon to help the environment by supporting sustainable fashion.

It will be held on Sunday 9 March from 10am until 4pm, with entry priced at £3 for early bird and £2 afterwards.

Worth The Weight Organiser Chris Davies said: “The events are at their peak, the demographic is vast.

"It’s great seeing new customers realise the amount of quality preloved clothing there is out there, that's always been here, since as far back as the 60s in some cases.”

With platforms like Vinted and Ebay sponsoring mainstream television, Worth the Weight says the shift in attitude to thrifting is massive as more people than ever before are following second-hand shopping trends. 

It says people in Swindon and across the country can we do more to help the environment while experiencing a greater range of pre-loved clothing at a fraction of the price new items would cost.

Worth the Weight was founded in 2018 as a way of fighting fast fashion. Their events showcase quality brands and styles without the environmental impact.

The clothing is priced by weight at £20 per kilo, and customers simply fill their bags as much or as little as they wish before heading for the tills.

Events feature nine tonnes of handpicked vintage and pre-owned stock to have a rummage through, offering a range of styles, eras and sizes.

As an added bonus, heavier items such as coats and jackets are capped at £20 per kilo, meaning customers never pay more that £20 for one item! 

Worth the Weight says that according to research from Roundup.org, fast fashion is currently the second most polluting industry on the planet, with 2.1bn tonnes of carbon emissions each year and as much as 92m tonnes of clothing ending up in landfills each year.
