VOLUNTEERS provide vital support to organisations in Swindon. Here are this month’s top four appeals for people to help out provided by Volunteer Centre Swindon.
- Blind Veterans UK are setting up a lunch club in the town and are looking for helpers who can socialise and offer support to members. The veterans can sometimes have difficulty reading the menu, cutting up food and fetching their own drinks. Helpers are able to sit down and enjoy a nice lunch too.
- The Royal British Legion has opened a new pop-in centre in Regent Street, Swindon and needs information volunteers to offer advice and support to beneficiaries. If you have basic IT skills and can spare a few hours per week, they’d like to hear from you. Circles South West, which helps Police and Probation services, is offering long term volunteering roles to work with offenders convicted of sexual offences. Circles of four or five volunteers work with an offender, meeting them on a regular basis to monitor their behaviour and support their reintegration into the community.
- Cruse Bereavement is looking for volunteers to support the role of referral secretary by being the first point of contact for bereaved clients. The role involves answering the telephone and taking details from bereaved people who require counselling or other support, as well as responding to emails from clients, health organisations and other agencies and signposting as required.
