Police are appealing for witnesses after a 45-year-old man was assaulted in Swindon.

In the very early hours of Sunday 8 July (around 12.15am) an altercation between a group of males and the man took place in an alleyway between Corporation Street and Alfred Street.

It's believed the man was attacked with a weapon causing cuts to his back and face.  He is being treated in hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Det Sgt Scott Anger said:  "This is a busy area of the town, so someone must have seen or heard something suspicious. We're appealing for anyone who may have witnessed an altercation between males in the area around midnight Saturday night into the early hours of Sunday 8 July.
"We are currently continuing our investigations and people may notice an increased police presence in this part of town."
