Man taken to hospital following fire in Royal Wootton Bassett

A man has been taken to hospital following a serious house fire in Royal Wootton Bassett.

Police were called by Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service shortly after 2am this morning, reporting the fire at a house in Noremarsh Road.

The occupant, a man in his 50s – was rescued from the house by a neighbour.

He was taken initially to the Great Western Hospital by ambulance but has since been transferred to Southmead Hospital.

He is believed to be in a serious condition.

Sergeant Louis McCoy said: “At this stage, the cause of the fire is under investigation and fire investigators have attended the scene, followed by our scenes of crime officers and investigations are underway.

“Noremarsh Road is a busy road and as a result of the fire, a road closure was put in place early this morning. This has since been lifted however, a cordon remains in place at the scene this morning.”
