Musical chairs for Swindon Borough Council's cabinet

Councillor David Renard (Haydon Wick), Conservative Leader of Swindon Borough, has announced his new Cabinet team for 2018/19. 

Councillor Toby Elliott (Priory Vale) has stood down from Cabinet because of professional commitments and Councillor Gary Sumner (Ridgeway ward) will be taking over the Strategic Planning portfolio.

Councillor Fionuala Foley (Chiseldon and Lawn), having been the Cabinet Member for Children’s Services and School attainment for five years, will be taking on the Highways and Environment portfolio.

The previous cabinet member for that area, Councillor Mary Martin (Shaw) will move to Councillor Foley’s old role.  Councillor Garry Perkins (Haydon Wick) will be stepping down from Cabinet in September and he will be working until then with Councillor Dale Heenan, who will take on the newly named Town Centre portfolio.

Councillor Renard said, “The Cabinet team I have appointed brings a mixture of experience and innovation that will drive the Council towards delivering the Vision, Priorities, and Pledges as well as managing the demand for personalised social care services. We will do all this while still keeping Council Tax as low and affordable as possible. 

“As a Cabinet we are grateful for the opportunity to serve the people of Swindon.  As a Conservative administration we will be working hard all year round to deliver high quality services to all residents of Swindon while keeping Council Tax fair and affordable”

Oliver Donachie       Cabinet Member for the Economy Prosperity

Fionuala Foley         Cabinet Member for Highways and the Environment

Brian Ford                 Cabinet Member for Adults

Gary Sumner            Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning

Mary Martin               Cabinet Member for Children's Services and School Attainment

Cathy Martyn           Cabinet Member for Housing and Public Safety

Garry Perkins            Cabinet Member for Town Centre

Keith Williams          Cabinet Member for Corporate and Customer Services
