Swindon Borough Council is urging people to find out more about Acorn Community Bank.

The bank says on its website: "We aim to help all our members achieve financial health. We try to help people get on top of their finances by encouraging them to save money when they can, and we lend to them at affordable rates when they need to borrow.

"We operate under the same rules and regulations as any other bank. But unlike high street banks, we are a cooperative, owned by our members and run for their benefit.

"We work in the local communities in the counties of Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire. You are welcome to visit us in our main office in Cavendish Square, Swindon, or at one of our community points."

The council says the bank supports people to get on top of their finances by encouraging them to save money when they can. Acorn has opened three saving programmes designed to help people to save money:

- Xmas Saver: Get ready for Christmas in January. This account allows for regular deposits of up to £50 per month, earning a monthly bonus equivalent to a seven per cent annual interest rate.

- Uniform Saver: Save £5 per month from February to July, and they will add a £20 bonus to your savings, both of which can be withdrawn by 10 August, 2025.

- Surplus Saver: Open a Surplus Saver account and make regular deposits totalling at least £200 by 15 March for a chance to win an extra £50 in a draw.
