A man has been jailed for almost a decade for an aggravated burglary in Swindon.
Chaivaz Stapleton, 29, of Station Road, New Barnet, appeared at Swindon Crown Court on Friday (02/05), where he was sentenced to nine years and one month imprisonment.
At around 11.50am on September 13 last year, Stapleton and three unknown suspects targeted the property in Okebourne Park, Liden, while the victims were at home.
The suspects threatened the victims with a hammer while ransacking the house of a significant amount of jewellery.
Following enquiries, a black Vauxhall Astra was identified as being used by the four suspects, with Stapleton established as the owner.
He was subsequently arrested on October 15 in London following a warrant at his address and charged with aggravated burglary, to which he pleaded guilty.
We remain determined to identify the three outstanding suspects and anyone with further information is asked to contact us.
DC Jared Yalden of the Serious Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) said: “This was a targeted attack and I’m pleased that the court has recognised the severity of it by sentencing Stapleton to almost a decade’s imprisonment.
“Burglaries are a truly invasive crime which have a significant long-term impact on the victims. They can violate your sense of safety in the one place where you should feel safest.
“That’s why clamping down on burglaries is one of the Chief’s three priorities for Wiltshire Police.
“For this incident, we know that Stapleton didn’t act alone. Three other people were involved in this burglary and we are determined that they are found and brought to justice. If you have any information then please contact us.”
