A Wiltshire charity has once again spread Christmas cheer by handing out advent calendars to 300 children across the county - thanks to support from a local housebuilder.
Fighting Hunger with Food Waste, a charitable organisation that redistributes surplus food from local supermarkets to those in need, received £500 from Barratt David Wilson Homes South West.
The money allowed volunteers to buy advent calendars which the team then donated to families across Wiltshire.
Shona Tomlinson, operational lead at the charity, said: “We’re so thankful for the continued generosity of Barratt David Wilson Homes South West.
"Their support means we can help make Christmas a bit brighter for hundreds of children.”
This marks the third year of support between the charity and the housebuilder, with the initiative led once again by assistant site manager, Jimmy Gatica.
He added: “For families facing financial hardship, little extras like an advent calendar might not be possible. We wanted to make sure every child could enjoy the countdown to Christmas and it’s been a privilege to support this initiative for another year.”
Fighting Hunger with Food Waste provides food and essentials to individuals, families, schools, foodbanks, and other community organisations across Wiltshire, offering a vital lifeline to those who need it most.
Wichelstowe in Swindon is one of the developers' projects, working with David Wilson Homes and Swindon Borough Council to create a vibrant community.
When complete, it will provide much-needed homes alongside schools, community facilities, and open spaces.
Orchards Rise offers a mix of homes surrounded by nature trails, play areas and green spaces. The area also benefits from nearby shops, restaurants and schools.
