Three illegally parked vehicles in Broadgreen were towed on Friday as part of our ongoing multi-agency work in the area.

Neighbourhood officers in conjunction with civil enforcement officers from Swindon Borough Council conducted the operation, targeting vehicles parked illegally in alleyways as well as fly-tipping in the area.

The latest operation, part of the multi-agency project Brighter Broadgreen, means 21 vehicles in total have been towed since November, following several months of educational work raising awareness around illegal parking in the area.

PCSO Chivers of Swindon Central South NPT said: “Illegal parking within Broadgreen has consistently been raised by residents as one of their main concerns.

“Across 2024, we did a significant amount of work within the community raising awareness of the issue and handing out parking warning letters for those found to be parked illegally to advise and educate the drivers.

“Since November, in conjunction with Swindon Borough Council, we have been taking a robust approach to those found to be parked illegally, such as in the alleyways or on double yellow lines.

“The alleyways in the neighbourhood are considered public highways and need to be left clear for both the public and emergency services to use.

“Those towed could be required to pay up to £250 to have their vehicle released.

“We will continue to work with Swindon Borough Council’s parking enforcement team to clamp down on those who flout the law.”

Councillor Chris Watts, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment and Transport said: “It was a great effort by the local community, councillors and the police to lead on cleaning up Broadgreen.

“We know fly-tipping in this area is a big problem and we want to see change happen, but that relies on everyone doing their part.

“If we find any evidence of people who are fly-tipping, we’ll take action to make sure they’re deterred from doing it again.”
