The countdown to Christmas in Swindon's town centre has begun with a key announcement five months ahead of the big day.

It has been confirmed that a brand-new chalet Christmas market will be coming later this year.
LSD Promotions and Swindon Borough Council have teamed up to launch Swindon's Chalet Christmas Market, set to take place from Saturday 23 November to Saturday 21 December at The Parade in Swindon.
As part of the council’s work to improve the town centre and make it a more welcoming environment, the free event promises to bring a magical festive atmosphere to the heart of Swindon, offering a unique Christmas experience for residents and visitors alike.
Cllr Marina Strinkovsky, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Placemaking and Planning, said: “I’m thrilled to see a proper Christmas market come to the town centre. Everybody loves a Christmas market and it’s only fitting that Swindon should have one of its own.
"The pretty chalets, twinkling lights and winter warmer food stalls will go a long way to create a lovely festive spirit.
“LSD is a great operator and has been responsible for some fantastic markets in the past (such as ones in Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon) so we’re really pleased to be working with them.
“The town centre's current weekly market is already incredibly popular and this addition will only be a positive over the festive period.

The market will include:
- A Food Court with a variety of street food and seasonal treats including mulled Wine
- Unique and handmade gifts
- Roaming Entertainment including live performers creating a festive atmosphere
The festivities will kick off on Saturday 23 November with the Christmas Lights Switch On, marking the start of the festive season in Swindon.
More details on the switch-on event, and what stalls will be at the market, will be announced closer to the date.
