Swindon Borough Council has issued a reminder that eligible Swindon families could be in line for 30 hours of free childcare.

Childcare provision is increasing from September, meaning families can apply from the term after their child turns nine months old until they reach school age.

A council spokesperson said: "This expansion is designed to support children’s early education and help parents to better balance their work and family life.

"It’s the final phase of the childcare expansion programme, which could save some families up to £7,500 a year.

"Parents can apply for their childcare code by 31 August to start using the support from September."

Those who already have a code need not reapply, but can instead simply continue to reconfirm their details every three months on their GOV.UK account, meaning that their existing code will update.
