Swindon Borough Council say work will begin on Monday 27 March) to improve the Coate Water Roundabout area as part of its highways maintenance programme.
This highways maintenance programme is funded by the Department for Transport, and is expected to last until the end of this year.
- Waterproofing of Coate Bridge – next to Coate Roundabout (eastbound carriageway only, towards Commonhead Roundabout)
- Upgrading the traffic signals on Coate Roundabout
- Closing of the two subways under Queens Drive and Marlborough Road (in phases, with the Queens Drive subway to close first in mid-April)
- The installation of a new toucan crossing, footway and cycleway links on Queens Drive
- Resurfacing patches along Queens Drive next to the new toucan crossing and along Marlborough Road between Commonhead Roundabout and Coate Roundabout.
Swindon Borough Council's contractor will start work next week to set up their compound and work in the grass verges.
Lane closures and 20mph speed restrictions will be in place during the work from mid-April, and any planned road closures are due to be done overnight to minimise the impact to road users.
A clear footpath diversion will be in place while the subway is decommissioned.
