Hundreds of Swindon households woke this morning to discover they had low water pressure or no water at all.
The cause was the latest failure of a Thames Water pipe, this time in Collard Close, Wichelstowe.
The company, recently fined a record £122.7m for breaching rules over sewage spillage and shareholder payments, announced in a post on its website, last updated at 8.59am, that the process of repairing the burst main was a 'tricky' one expected to take several hours.
The leak comes only weeks after another water main burst forced Old Town businesses to close and left hundreds of households without water for cooking, bathing and flushing toilets.
This time, the victims include pupils and staff of The Commonweal School and Lethbridge Primary School in Old Town, both of which announced they they had to close for the day.
On local social media, residents reported full or partial outages in locations including Clifton Street, Wood Street, Eastcott Hill, The Quarries, Kent Road, Devizes Road, Godwin Court, Celsus Grove, Hythe Road, Bath Road, Croft Road and Avenue Road.
