International Control Room Week sees Wiltshire Police shining a spotlight on their Contact Management team.
The team, the force says, are ready day and night to help those most in need.
From answering 999 calls to co-ordinating the police response to the public during times of need, the role of a Contact Centre Operator is varied, and no two shifts are the same.
The team are ready to pick up the phone and give members of the public the right support during what can be the worst moments of their lives.
Since last November, the Contact Management team have answered 116,968 calls to 999 calls and 120,233 calls to 101 across Wiltshire.
During this time, the team have provided critical support to the force, whilst making quick decisions to assess risk and ensure the appropriate support and safeguarding is in place for victims of crime.
Nicola West, the force’s Contact Management Operations Manager, said: “I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to the Contact Management Team for their hard work and dedication over the past year.
“It is not lost on us that some shifts can be incredibly demanding and require decisions to be made in challenging circumstances.
"A single shift can involve a missing person, a serious collision, a crime in progress or someone experiencing a mental health crisis, which all require careful management by the team.”
Over the summer, the Force reported a 7.4% annual increase of 999 calls in June. Over three days in one week in June, 999 demand exceeded levels recorded during New Year’s Eve 2025.
International Control Room Week 2026 takes place from Monday 26 October until Sunday 1 November.
The force are currently recruiting for Contact Centre Operators. More information can be found on the careers section of the force's website.
