Swindon Borough Council is asking the people of the town to avoid having bonfires at any cost. The statement reads...

Important information on bonfires ??

Following a series of complaints, we are advising that bonfires should be avoided at all costs during this time of crisis as they can:

??Cause difficulties for residents with breathing problems as well as those displaying symptoms of COVID-19
??Release toxic smoke when some items are burnt
??Upset neighbours who want to open windows and enjoy their gardens
??Quickly get out of control and put additional pressures on emergency respondents

Burning household waste, DIY waste, plastic, treated wood and other items is an offence. Our Environmental Health Officers are proactively investigating reports of bonfires which may result in enforcement action. For more information on bonfires and enforcement visit: http://ow.ly/wo0h50z8YXD

If your household has produced additional waste in the recent weeks you will need to keep hold of this and take it to the Household Waste Recycling Centre when it reopens. For advice on managing and minimising your waste please visit: http://ow.ly/Xzil50z8YXz
