Reducing waste and promoting positive recycling habits is a key part of Swindon Borough Council’s mission to build a greener Swindon.
To achieve this the council have introduced a team of Waste & Recycling Officers who work with local residents, landlords and developers to tackle head-on issues preventing residents from playing their part.
Kevin, Chris and Tobin will be dealing one to one with residents to help make sure they can access our waste and recycling service, and resolving issues including issuing replacement bins, arranging assisted collections where necessary and educating on the best ways to reduce unnecessary waste.
Cllr Chris Watts, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment and Transport, said: “Our Waste & Recycling Officers do a fantastic job in helping our residents to access the service we provide. By having a conversation with people face-to-face, they are often able to overcome small problems that may be preventing residents have their waste collected or stopping them from using our comprehensive recycling service.
“Building a greener Swindon will only happen when we all support the work to prevent unnecessary waste. Whether that means having less waste in the first place, or recycling more effectively, taking the right steps will help us move away from the current situation where more than half of the waste in our black bins is recyclable.
“When we do that, we’ll both be saving residents money, and playing our part to help the environment.”
The council would like to thank everyone across the Borough who are already supporting their efforts to reduce waste and recycle more.
