Distraction burglary in Stratton St Margaret

Swindon Police are appealing for witnesses following a distraction burglary targeting an elderly man at a property in Stratton St Margaret.

On May 31 two men offered to do some gardening work for the elderly resident in Wheeler Avenue. He agreed and they asked for cash. 

They then offered to do another job and asked for more money whilst sitting inside his property.

It is believed one of the same men came back to the address on June 4, with another man, offering to do some roof work. They asked for a large sum of money and followed the man into his property. it is believed the elderly man paid £2,000 in total.

The suspects are described as having Irish accents, with the first two aged in their 30s and 20s and the second two in their 30s and older.

The force has released images of a van in relation to the incidents.

Officers have been carrying out house to house and CCTV enquiries and are urging anyone who has information that could help with those enquiries to contact us on 101 quoting reference number 54250068876.
