Electoral Register being updated

Swindon Borough Council is in the midst of its annual updating of the Electoral Register.

A spokesperson said: "We’re contacting all households to make sure the electoral register is up to date.

"When you receive your letter or e-mail, just follow the instructions so we know you’re registered and ready to vote."

Electoral Registration Officers have a legal duty to conduct an annual canvass to ensure the electoral register is accurate and up to date.

For properties where the council thinks there are no changes to the electors registered there, it will communicate the details it holds for the property and give the option to make changes if necessary.

If it has email addresses for electors at the property, it sends an email from [email protected] .

The email will link to the household response website where people can enter their unique security code and follow the instructions. 

The council says it is aware that some electors have received emails purporting to be from Tameside Council. These emails are genuine and work is being done to correct the error.

The spokeperson said: "More than one person at the property may receive an email, but only one person needs to respond. You should respond to either confirm the information is correct or to advise us of any changes.

"Please respond as soon as you receive an email. This will reduce the costs involved in sending further reminders.

"If we don’t receive a response to the email or we don’t hold an email address associated with the property, we will contact you by post from 21 October 2024. This will contain a form and further instructions about what to do." 

For properties where the council thinks there are changes to the electors registered, the council sends a communication by post addressed to 'The Occupier' which asks the household to either confirm the information or advise it of any changes.
