The Ellendune Community Centre in Wroughton has been awarded a £9,880 grant from Nationwide to go towards a brand new kitchen.
The refurbishment of the kitchen and bar is intended to improve the centre’s facilities and provide a more modern and appealing serving area.
The whole kitchen refit is expected to cost in the region of £28,000. As well as the £9,880 Nationwide grant, £6,500 has been donated by the Friends of the Ellendune group, with the remainder being covered by Wroughton and Wichelstowe Parish Council.
Cllr John Hewer, Chair of Wroughton and Wichelstowe Parish Council, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded this fantastic grant from Nationwide.
"The £9,880 funding is a major contribution towards the new kitchen and servery and brings us a significant step closer to making this important improvement to the Ellendune Community Centre a reality.
“I would also like to pay tribute to the Friends of the Ellendune for their tremendous fundraising efforts and their commitment to contributing towards the project. Without their support, this project would simply not be possible.”
The kitchen and bar facilities at Ellendune Community Centre are used by a variety of community groups and for a range of activities and events.
They are also used by one off bookings such as parties, weddings and conferences along with the permanent tenants of the parish council office and Wroughton Community Library.
The new kitchen will come equipped with a microwave, a large fridge, an oven, a commercial dishwasher and plenty of storage.

Sally Parker, from the Friends of the Ellendune, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled that the Ellendune is going to get a kitchen makeover.
"It will be a wonderful addition to the centre that the whole community will make use of.
“I’m also thrilled that the Friends have been able to make a contribution towards the total. We’re really excited to get the renovation work done.”
The refurbishment is expected to start in early October and will likely take around three weeks.
