Wiltshire opticians, Haine & Smith, will be holding open days at some of its practices next week to raise awareness on the importance of eye health.

September 19 to 25 is National Eye Health Week and the independent eye specialists are using it as an opportunity to further educate the public on how to care for their eyes. They will also be reinforcing the importance of children’s eyes exams amidst a growing national concern of the increase of short sightedness (Myopia) in young people due to increased screen time.

Highlighted below is the activity at various practices throughout the week:

Devizes

Following the national news on the increase of Myopia (short-sightedness) in children, the Devizes practice is holding an open day on Saturday, September 24 as an opportunity to learn about the signs to look out for, advising parents how they can help at home, demonstrating myopia control contact lenses and glasses available to children if they need them and offering appointment services. Visit the practice in The Britox to have a chat with an optometrist and pick up a children’s goody bag.

Royal Wootton Bassett

The practice in Royal Wootton Bassett is holding a contact lens open day on Saturday, September 24. A representative from contact lens manufacturer Bausch + Lomb will be there to help with any queries and to help arrange trials of the lenses. Information, alongside goody bags, will be given out to anyone interested on the day.

Malmesbury

A talented member of the Malmesbury practice will hand-draw an anatomical eye in the window throughout the week, to help educate children on the different parts that help you see and why it’s important to look after them. Team members will be there to speak to parents on why children should get their eyes tested, how often, and to make appointments.

This is following the national news on the increase of Myopia (short-sightedness) in children. The team will be on hand with leaflets and information on the signs to look out for and how parents can help at home.
