Following reports of an attempted armed robbery in Swindon town centre yesterday afternoon (16/09), police have arrested two 16-year-old boys.
Police enquiries are continuing following an attempted armed robbery in Swindon town centre yesterday (16/09).
Wiltshire Police were called to reports of a small group of youths approaching a man close to Clarence House shortly after 3pm.
The youths attempted to rob the man and are alleged to have threatened him with a suspected firearm.
They then fled the scene and the victim was uninjured.
A large scale police response was mounted, including the use of the police helicopter and armed police officers.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested a short time later in connection with this incident. He has subsequently been released on bail pending further enquiries.
A second 16-year-old boy has been arrested this morning (17/09) and remains in custody.
Officers' enquiries are progressing in relation to this incident, including the execution of warrants in Swindon this morning to identify those responsible.
Police would like to reassure Swindon residents that there is nothing to suggest any wider risk to the public.
