Swindon Forest Meadows welcomes everybody whom wants to make a difference to the natural environment in and around the town.
The nature recovery project helps to create, connect and care for woodlands, meadows, ponds and other wildlife habitats across Swindon.
A Swindon Borough Council spokesperson said: "This partnership project between Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and the council works with local communities, volunteers and partners to improve green spaces, support biodiversity and help people build a stronger connection with nature."
August was another busy month with volunteers taking part in vital projects including:
- managing meadows and wildlife habitats, including controlling invasive Himalayan balsam at Rivermead Flood Storage Area and carrying out conservation work at Swindon Lagoons and Clouts Wood.
- supporting Westcott Tree Nursery by maintaining growing areas, caring for young trees and preparing for native seed collection.
- watering and caring for young trees at Mouldon Hill, Lydiard Park and Westcott Tree Nursery during the dry summer weather.
- helping with Great Crested Newt surveys across Swindon, contributing to important conservation work while developing new wildlife skills. A total of 43 volunteers took part in survey sessions this year.
The spokesperson added: "Whether you’re interested in practical conservation, tree care, wildlife surveys, seed collection or simply spending more time outdoors, there’s a role for you.
"Volunteers can sign up for sessions through the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust volunteer portal and join activities across Swindon throughout the year."
