Great Western Hospital have shared their most recent maternity statistics for last month, including the number of baby girls and boys born over the course of the month.
GWH staff have pooled together their maternity data from last January and are sharing the birthing statistics with members of the public.
During the month of January, GWH staff recorded the following:
- 143 spontaneous births in the hospital
- 8 people had water births
- There were 26 instrumental births
- There were 4 planned home births
Also during last month, there were 173 vaginal births, and 147 caesarean recorded. Hospital staff added that 71% of mothers were breastfeeding at the time of discharge from the hospital.
In January, a total of 320 babies were born. There were 164 baby boys, 156 baby girls, and 7 sets of twins. Two babies were born sleeping.
