A reminder that Halloween pumpkins can be disposed of in an environmentally-friendly way has been issued by Swindon Borough Council.
A spokesperson said: "If you’ve carved a pumpkin this Halloween, and it’s no longer looking its best, remember you can recycle it by placing it in your food waste caddy.
"Or, the outer skin of a pumpkin works great in the compost pile.
"On average over £60-worth of food is thrown in the bin by UK households each month. Where waste does have to be thrown away, make use of the weekly food waste collection service."
The spokesperson added: "Everyone’s efforts have helped recycle more than 4,440 tonnes of food waste since November 2023."
Other items suitable for putting in food waste caddies include food leftovers and plate scrapings, eggs, teabags, coffee grounds, raw and cooked food, pet food and bones from meat, poultry or fish.
Anybody unsure of what can be recycled can look it up using the council's online Waste Wizard tool.
