Helen Browning's Chophouse on Wood Street announced that it would not be reopening after lockdown on Friday. Today they have released a fuller statement about the closure.
The statement released on social media reads:
Good morning friends.
Wow isn't this week going to be a scorcher?! I hope you get to enjoy it (thank goodness for all the rain we've had, everything was starting to dry up. We're now well equipped for this bout of hotness.)
It is with sadness we closed our doors last week. With the way things are we cannot run our fabulous, but physically small (and entirely indoors) restaurant, in the way we want to.
We've had a great time. Most of our current team has been there for nearly 3 years and most of you lovely people have been with us from the start.
It's felt more like a community than just a restaurant.
We've seen you on your first dates, celebrated with you on your birthdays, family gatherings and wedding anniversaries and been there with you through your bad times.
We've met your brand new babies (note to new parents; get a wobbly lamp shade like the ones we had above our bar and you'll entertain them for hours.) And enjoyed sneaking sausages to your fabulous dogs.
Simply put: we've had a blast and I just want to say Thank You.
This is the end for The Chop House, but never fear, your organic bacon is still near (poet laureate or what...)
Do come see us at
in Bishopstone, also take a peak at our organic shop
where we will deliver to your house.
Thanks again my lovelies.
The Chop House Team.
P.S if you want our brunch playlist, ping us a message and I will send it to you (minus any of the Jackson 5 tracks which I always tried to skip if I was close to the music box!)
