The Heritage Open Days project has been hailed a major success by Swindon Borough Council.

Thanks to Heritage Open Days, buildings and organisations across the borough opened their doors to the public to showcase historic landmarks and locations.
From seeing behind the construction walls of the Health Hydro to a guided tour around Radnor Street Cemetery, there was something for everyone.
However, just because Heritage Open Days are over, it doesn’t mean Swindon’s past will now be hidden away again.
The Works Heritage Trail is a continuous offering around the Railway Village with the Children’s Story Trail also running alongside it until 3 November.
People can also get involved in various upcoming events and activities by keeping in touch with The Railway Village Museum, Steam - Museum of the Great Western Railway, Radnor Street Cemetery and Swindon Heritage Preservation.
Cllr Marina Strinkovsky, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning and Placemaking, said: “It was my pleasure to attend the celebration event for The Works, Swindon’s heritage preservation area, as well as to be in the area during Heritage Open Days. It was a great experience to see so many people out and about, enjoying Swindon’s history and heritage.

“Heritage Open Days are a wonderful way of opening both buildings and stories to the public, and it is our ambition to grow people’s knowledge of and love for our town’s heritage beyond those two weekends a year, and to make our heritage a year-round attraction.

“Keep an eye on social media, at the Council’s channels and other local organisations, for more info on any upcoming events that might take your fancy.”
