A woman with 24 points on her licence who was caught driving while disqualified has been jailed.

Amanda Gail Hickling, 61, of Main Road, Cherhill, a woman known to be disqualified until April 2026, was spotted driving her Nissan Qashqai by a Roads Policing officer on the A4361 at Broad Hinton on the afternoon of Friday 21 February.

An ANPR check showed that Hickling had 24 penalty points on her driving licence and no car insurance policy before she was stopped.

Hickling was arrested, charged and remanded in custody to appear at Swindon Magistrates' Court the following morning, where she pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified and without third party insurance.

She was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison and disqualified from driving for a further 18 months. Hickling now has 36 points on her licence as a result of the stop.

This incident came just over a month after she was caught committing the same offence on Westbrook Road in Calne on 7 January, for which she spent four weeks in prison.

PC Oliver Venton said: "Hickling showed a blatant disregard for the law when she chose to drive her car knowing she had recently gone to prison for the same offence.

"After being pulled over, she insisted that she was taking the driving ban seriously and that she had simply "pushed her luck" to drive to the shop."

A police spokesperson said in a message to the public: "If you suspect someone you know to be driving after appearing in court for a motoring offence, they may be breaking the law.

"We would encourage anyone with these suspicions to report it to Wiltshire Police by calling 101 or visiting our website."
